Spiced Maple Bourbon Fizz
A sparkling bourbon cocktail with warm maple, orange and aromatic spices, with an alcohol-free variation.

Contains alcohol — adults only. Pitcher: combine the bourbon, syrup and juices; add sparkling water or prosecco just before serving. Tips: use real maple syrup and fresh citrus juice; steep syrup longer (up to 30 minutes) for stronger spice; make syrup ahead; try smoked bourbon; prosecco gives a lighter version; use dehydrated orange and cinnamon for garnish. Variations: apple cider instead of orange juice; add 1 oz cranberry juice; maple old fashioned fizz with bitters and a maraschino cherry. Mocktail: omit bourbon and use 3 oz apple cider with a splash of vanilla and sparkling water. Syrup keeps airtight refrigerated up to 2 weeks; mixed cocktail without sparkling ingredients can be made up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated. Pair with roast turkey, herb stuffing, cranberry sauce, charcuterie, spiced nuts, pumpkin appetizers, pecan pie or holiday desserts.

Method
- 1
Make the spiced maple syrup: in a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, orange peel, lemon peel and nutmeg (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse. Remove from heat, let cool and strain into a jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- 2
Prepare the glass: fill a rocks or highball glass with ice. For an extra festive touch, rim the glass with cinnamon sugar (mix 2 tbsp sugar with ½ tsp cinnamon) by rubbing an orange wedge around the rim and dipping it in the mixture.
- 3
Make the cocktail: in a cocktail shaker, combine bourbon, spiced maple syrup, orange juice and lemon juice. Shake well for 10–15 seconds.
- 4
Assemble: strain into the prepared glass filled with ice. Top with sparkling water or prosecco and gently stir.
- 5
Garnish and enjoy: add an orange slice, cinnamon stick, star anise and a sprig of rosemary.
